Northern Area Health Education Center received a grant through the United States Department of Health and Human Services for the period September 1, 2022, through August 31, 2022, to provide opioid prevention education in our service area. NAHEC utilized these funds to coordinate and collaborate with local community-based partners to host six community engagement events and fifteen tabling sessions to increase local knowledge and awareness of opioid abuse, prevention, and treatments.
Important partners include St. Lawrence County Public Health, St. Lawrence County Community Services, Seaway Valley Prevention Council, New York State Clinical Education Initiative (CEI), Binghamton University School of Pharmaceutical Science and Rural and Underserved Service Track (TRUST), and New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASES).
As part of the larger New York State AHEC System, NAHEC is one of nine centers in the State of New York offering statewide capacity for addressing healthcare workforce needs. NAHEC serves Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Franklin and Clinton counties. The NYSAHEC System is supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under the Award titled Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Program (U77).
