Western New York Rural Area Health Education Center, Inc. (WNY R-AHEC) is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Boards for Social Work (#SW-0685), Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Mental Health Practitioners (#MHC-0268) as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers, physical therapists and assistants, occupational therapists, and assistants, and licensed mental health counselors.
This one-hour webinar will feature a lecture-style discussion on the identification of potential warning signs of cognitive impairment within the rural-dwelling elderly population. Constructs such as ageism, cultural biases, and geography and their influence on perception and treatment of older adults will be explored. Age-related changes will be discerned from potential pathophysiological changes in cognition and behavior. Warning signs of potential cognitive impairment will be examined within a rural context of care. Resources for caregiver assistance will be provided.
