The Northern Area Health Education Center (NAHEC) conducted an extensive presentation on domestic violence prevention and intervention for the St. Lawrence County Public Health Department.
This program offered a detailed examination of the challenges faced by domestic violence victims and highlighted the critical need for effective intervention strategies.
A key component of the presentation was an immersive simulation, where participants experienced the lives of six women enduring various forms of domestic violence. This impactful exercise highlighted the complex realities and emotional burdens that victims endure.
Following the simulation, NAHEC facilitated a discussion on intervention and prevention methods. Participants engaged in meaningful conversations about the role of intersectionality, exploring how an individual’s identity and socioeconomic status can influence their experience with domestic violence. The discussion underscored how factors such as rural location, financial dependency, sexual orientation, and race/ethnicity pose significant barriers to accessing essential resources and support.
